The Government has announced that it intends to expand Heathrow, giving the go-ahead for a third runway at Heathrow. The one glimmer of good news is that our half day of peace is safe - as the Government rejected mixed-mode and preserved runway alternation. "I implore local people not to lose heart. If the Government thinks the fight is over, it is underestimating the strength of our opposition." Night flights cause disturbance and distress to a great number of people living under the flight path. There are currently no restrictions on the number of flights that are allowed between 11.30pm and 6am up to a maximum of 5,800 a year. The Department for Transport is now planning to increase the number of night flights still further up to a maximum of 620 flights per year, raising the average per night from 16 to 18.
We say NO to more night flights and further expansion of Heathrow airport.
