MP DISAPPOINTED AT COOMBE ROAD RAILWAY BRIDGE DELAYS

1.04.24pm UTC (GMT +0000) Wed 6th Aug 2008

Susan Kramer, MP for Richmond Park and North Kingston has expressed her disappointment at the news that work to complete the replacement of the Coombe Road railway bridge has been halted.

Network Rail has had to postpone completion of the new bridge because of a Victorian water main under Coombe Road. Thames Water has decided that the risk to this water main is too great to allow further work to be done on the bridge.

Network Rail does not now anticipate completing work on the bridge until next year.

Susan Kramer MP commented:

"I am really disappointed that these works have been delayed, as I know local residents have already endured a lot of disruption through the initial stages of the replacement work."

"I know local residents and businesses will be really dismayed that the completion of the replacement has had to be postponed when the end to the weeks of disruption and road closures was so clearly in sight."

"I have asked Thames Water to confirm the timescales for the work on the water main, and will let local residents know as soon as I find out more."
