MP DELIGHTED AS GOVERNMENT BACKS SMALL WINE GLASS PROPOSAL11.50.54am UTC (GMT +0000) Fri 1st Aug 2008 Susan Kramer MP has welcomed the news that the Government is to take on a Lib Dem proposal to require pubs and clubs to offer smaller wine glasses alongside larger measures. Susan Kramer MP supported a Private Members Bill introduced by her Lib Dem colleague Greg Mulholland which won cross-party support. The bill called for pubs and clubs to be required to serve small glasses of wine as well as large. The Government is poised to introduce this measure in the autumn as part of plans to tackle problem drinking. Susan Kramer MP commented: "I am delighted that the Government has seen sense and is going to take problem drinking seriously." "More and more pubs and clubs are serving wine in bigger and bigger glasses, and it is very easy for consumers to drink more than they mean to. Often drinkers just don't know how many units they are consuming." "Requiring pubs and clubs to serve the smaller glasses as well as larger ones will give people more choice as well as helping increase awareness of responsible drinking."
