Lowther School

Lowther Primary School in North Barnes has been praised for its approach to healthy eating by MP Susan Kramer (Richmond Park). She was speaking in a debate on the Children's Food Bill in Parliament.

The day-to-day work by teachers and children means that everyone gets involved in the discussions around food and nutrition and these messages are brought into the home as well.

Susan Kramer said:

"Lowther Primary School decided that it would not only introduce healthy eating only for children, so it combined with Roehampton University and the Primary Care Trust to take healthy eating out into the community.

"The school, which sadly was unsuccessful in its bid for money for a new block to hold a nursery, new canteen and kitchen, is still pressing ahead with its aim to be a healthy school in a healthy community.

"One of its most exciting projects is a vegetable and fruit garden to encourage youngsters to grow and cost their own healthy and produce.

"I cannot praise it enough for the imaginative way it has created a programme around healthy eating as well as equally important issues of play, sport and fitness."
