An investigation by BBC London has prompted MP Susan Kramer to ask residents to beware of organic food labelling which is misleading.

Her comments follow spot checks at Barnes Farmers' Market where it was found, in one case, that registration with the Soil Association had not been finalised.

Susan Kramer said:

" I think there are two issues here. Firstly people should not take the labelling at face value and should look for the Soil Association logo.

" Secondly small traders should work with the Soil Association to ensure that the registration process is speedy and that there are no major financial barriers to small businesses seeking legitimate recognition.

" Organic food is a big growth industry but shoppers need to be assured that when they are paying the price for organic produce that it is exactly what it says it is."
